Delete Underperforming Pins
Pinterest keeps track of your account and how you perform: what's your save rate, outbound clicks per pin etc. They obviously don't want to promote losers. If you remove underperforming pins - you'll improve your account health.
When a pin is officially dead weight
Pinterest is unlike other platforms. Pins rarely get engagement on the first day after the post(unless they're created by a very big, old account).
Usually consensus is that after 3-6 months of posting, if you're not getting any engagement - it's time to delete.
What exactly is "not getting any engagement"?
It depends on your account and your usual metrics.
I can only tell how we do it in BlogToPin. We have a few filters you can configure:
- Pin has no saves
- Pin has no outbound clicks
It's simple. If Pin wasn't liked by anyone in half a year - something is probably off. And high chances it just won't rank.
There are more interesting filters, of course: - how much lower it is than your median Pin.
So let's assume you're a big account and usually each pin gets around 100 impressions. It means that if there are pins which get less than 50 impressions - probably something is off...
But if you're a new account and your pins only have 10pins in average - obviously you probably should remove only if pin have less than 1-2 impressions...
You can also take a look at CTR%. If your pin is a listicle(it should drive clicks) but it doesn't really drive clicks and doesn't help you - you can also try to remove it. But it's much more risky
In BlogToPin, we automate all the filters for you so you don't need to worry about it. We just present to you a list of pins to remove, and why we thing you should do it
Seasonal Pins
When thinking about 3-6months treshold for pins - don't forget about seasonal pins.
If you posted a Pin about Christmas in January - it's okay that in October it still won't have any traffic...
You should wait till Christmas!!
Old Pins
For the pins which were created before 2022, Pinterest doesn't have lifetime analytics. Only last 90 days.
So it's extremely dangerous to remove them.
Don't remove all at once
Think about it from Pinterest perspecitve. You never removed a pin before. And now - wiped out 200 of them in an hour. It sounds weird
Does it lead to bans? I'm not sure. But I don't recommend you risking.
In BlogToPin, we spread the removals out. 12pins/day is the maximum. All to keep you safe!
