Step 1 · Day 1 by BlogToPin
Account Creation
Setting up new accounts properly is crucial. Here's exactly how to do it right from day one.
Important: This guide assumes you're starting fresh. If you have an existing account with poor performance, and it's at least 6+ months old - consider starting fresh.
Profile Setup
1. Create a Business Account
- • Go to business.pinterest.com
- • Choose "Create a business account"
- • Use any email
- • Select your business type and category
Why do you need a business account? Well, why not. It's free and only gives you more benefits.
You get detailed analytics for your pins, and you can optimize the pins better
2. Optimize Your Profile
- • Display Name: Use keywords naturally (e.g., "Nic's DIY Home Decor")
- • Username: Keep it short, brandable, memorable
- • Bio: Write keyword-aware bio using our Bio Generator
- • Profile Image: Use a clear logo or professional headshot. Headshot is more preferred because people will trust you more
How much time should you spend doing this? And does this actually improve your rankings?
Well there are no proofs, but it can make you a bit more legitimate in Pinterest's eyes. I won't spend more than 10 minutes on this. Either use our free tools, or ChatGPT to generate bio and you're good to go.
3. Claim Your Domain
- • Go to Settings → Claim
- • Add HTML tag or upload HTML file
- • Verify domain ownership
Are you required to claim the domain?
Well, once again, you don't lose anything by doing it. You only get better analytics + give a bit more credibility to your account
Important - your domain should be ".com", others might have suppressed reach, or even be banned right away. ".com" is the safest bet.
Board Strategy
Boards tell Pinterest what you're about
To be honest, there are a lot of board strategies. Some people just have 5 boards for major topics
Other people prefer to have each board for each url
Some people are in between and create board for each keyword cluster
The truth is - it doesn't really matter. Just choose one strategy and stick to it. Of course, if you have more boards - you need to spend more time keeping them active.
When you use BlogToPin - there's a builtin board matcher, so that when you generate a pin - it's automatically matched to the most relevant board
It helps a lot
But if you end up having a lot of boards - it's important to keep creating them when you create new pages/clusters
Board Optimization
- • Names: Use human-readable names with 1–2 keywords
- • Descriptions: Write helpful 1–2 sentence descriptions
- • Categories: Choose closely related Pinterest categories
- • Board Covers: They're not a must. Add them if you have a lot of time!
Use our Board Name Generator for ideas.
Initial Seeding
Critical: DO NOT post your own content yet! First, we need to establish relevance. Instead, save some high-quality pins to each board. When you create each board, Pinterst suggests you a few pins to save there. Do it
Day 1 Seeding Plan
- • Save 3-5 high-quality pins to each board
- • Choose pins from established creators in your niche
- • Don't just spam the saves to your boards. Space them out a bit. Don't be a bot
Checklist for Day 1
- Business account created
- Profile fully optimized (name, bio, image)
- Domain claimed and verified
- Boards created with descriptions(I'd suggest no more than 5-10 new boards per day)
- (Optional) Board covers uploaded
- 1-3 relevant pins saved to each board
- Follow a few creators from your niche
What NOT to Do on Day 1
- ❌ Don't create any original pins yet
- ❌ Don't follow more than 5–10 accounts
- ❌ Don't save more than 50 pins total
- ❌ Don't use automation tools
