How to use the generator
- Say what you're selling. Name the item plainly, the way a shopper would search for it: "ceramic coffee mug", "printable wedding seating chart".
- Add target keywords. Type two or three phrases, or click the suggested words. If you already know your search terms from Etsy Stats or the Etsy keyword tool, paste them here.
- Fill in the details. Materials, size, colors, quantity, personalization options. The more concrete facts you give, the less the drafts fall back on generic wording.
- Compare the three versions. Each takes a slightly different angle. Copy the one closest to your item, then check every fact before you publish: the tool only knows what you typed.
What Etsy says about titles
- A listing title can be up to 140 characters, but Etsy suggests using fewer than 15 words.
- Say clearly what the item is, then the key traits (color, material, size). Avoid repeating words and leave subjective words like "perfect" for the description.
- Don't add price, shipping or sale details. Etsy shows those as badges in search.
- Only mention holidays, occasions or recipients when they're part of what the item is, such as "birthday candle" or "Halloween costume".
- Your title becomes the page title of the listing, and Google shows only the first 50 to 60 characters, so put the most important words first.

Etsy's handbook also notes that where a phrase sits in the title doesn't change its ranking inside Etsy search. Leading with the item name still helps, because shoppers scanning results see what it is and are more likely to click (How Etsy Search Works).
Weak titles vs. stronger titles
| Weak title | Stronger title | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Name Necklace, Personalized Necklace, Custom Necklace, Gold Necklace, Gift for Her, Bridesmaid Gift | Personalized Gold Name Necklace, Dainty Script Pendant | Repeating "necklace" adds length, not reach. Recipient and gift phrases fit better in tags. |
| Beautiful Perfect Mug, Best Gift Ever | Ceramic Coffee Mug with Hand-Painted Lemons, 12 oz | Says what it is, then material, design and size. Subjective words belong in the description. |
| FREE SHIPPING Boho Wall Art SALE 20% OFF | Boho Wall Art Print, Terracotta Arch, Printable Download | Etsy badges free shipping and sales itself. "Printable download" tells buyers it's digital. |
| Christmas Birthday Halloween Gift Candle | Soy Candle in Amber Jar, Fig and Cedar Scent | Occasions only belong in the title when they define the item. Scent and jar are what buyers compare. |
How to structure the description
Etsy search reads descriptions when matching and ranking listings (source), but the description's main job is to answer buyers' questions before they have to message you:
- First sentence: what the item is and who it's for, in plain words.
- Details: materials, exact dimensions, colors, what's included.
- Options: how personalization or variations work, and what to type in the personalization box.
- Care and delivery: care instructions and processing time, or for digital items, the file types and sizes.
FAQ
Should I use all 140 characters?
No. Etsy now recommends short, clear titles of under 15 words. A long list of keywords makes titles hard to scan, and your 13 tags are the place for extra search phrases.
Do I need to repeat my tags in the title?
No. Titles, tags, categories and attributes all count when Etsy matches a search. Use the title for the two or three phrases that best describe the item and put other phrases in tags.
Can I use the generated text as-is?
Treat it as a draft. Check sizes, materials and claims against the real product, and add details only you know, such as processing time or how you package orders.
Is the tool free?
Yes, and there's no sign-up.
