Etsy Fee Calculator FAQ
Which Etsy fees are included?
The calculator includes all major Etsy fees: $0.20 listing fee per item, 6.5% transaction fee on item price plus shipping, 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee, and optional Offsite Ads fees (12% for Star Sellers, 15% standard). These reflect current US rates and can be adjusted for your location.
What are Etsy Offsite Ads and should I include them?
Offsite Ads are Etsy's external advertising (Google, Facebook, etc.) that drive traffic to your listings. The fee only applies when a sale comes from these ads. Enable this option if you're enrolled in Offsite Ads or want to see potential costs. Star Sellers pay 12%, others pay 15%.
How accurate are the fee calculations?
Our calculator uses Etsy's published fee structure as of 2024. Fees can vary by country, payment method, and account type. Always verify against Etsy's current fee documentation and your Seller Dashboard for the most accurate rates in your region.
Can I calculate fees for multiple quantities?
Yes, but keep in mind this calculator shows per-item fees. The listing fee ($0.20) applies per quantity, so selling 3 items means $0.60 in listing fees. Other fees are percentage-based and scale proportionally with your total sale amount.
Why don't my actual fees match this calculator?
Several factors can cause differences: currency conversion rates, VAT in EU countries, different payment methods (PayPal vs. Etsy Payments), promotional fee discounts, or updated fee structures. This calculator provides estimates based on standard US rates.
How should I price my products using this calculator?
Start with your desired profit margin (aim for 50%+ to account for business expenses not included here). Work backwards: if you want $10 profit and your costs are $8, you need at least $18 selling price. Test different prices to find your sweet spot.
What costs should I include beyond materials?
Include materials, labor time (pay yourself!), packaging, shipping supplies, and a portion of overhead costs like workspace, utilities, and tools. Don't forget business expenses like photography, marketing, and your time managing the shop.
Does this work for digital products and printables?
Yes! Digital products have no shipping costs, but still incur listing fees, transaction fees, and payment processing. Your "cost" might include design time, software subscriptions, and the time to create listings. The same fee structure applies.
How do I account for sales tax in my pricing?
This calculator doesn't include sales tax, which Etsy collects separately in many jurisdictions. Sales tax is added on top of your listing price and goes directly to tax authorities, not affecting your profit calculations shown here.
What if I offer free shipping?
If you offer "free" shipping, build the shipping cost into your item price. For example, instead of $15 + $5 shipping, list at $20 with free shipping. Both scenarios generate the same revenue but may rank differently in Etsy search.
Should I factor in returns and refunds?
This calculator shows profit per successful sale. Consider setting aside 2-5% of profits for potential returns, damaged items, or customer service costs. Digital products typically have lower return rates than physical goods.
How often do Etsy fees change?
Etsy typically announces fee changes months in advance. Major changes happen 1-2 times per year. Always check your Seller Dashboard for current rates and watch for email notifications about fee updates that might affect your pricing strategy.
Can I deduct Etsy fees from my taxes?
Yes, Etsy marketplace fees are legitimate business expenses you can deduct. Keep records of all fees paid (Etsy provides annual summaries). Consult a tax professional for advice specific to your situation and jurisdiction.
What's the difference between transaction and payment processing fees?
Transaction fees (6.5%) go to Etsy for using their marketplace platform. Payment processing fees (3% + $0.25) cover credit card processing and secure payments. Both are charged on the total amount the customer pays, including shipping.
